Walpole Boat Ramp, Dock, and Riprap Revetment Charleston County, South Carolina

The proposed work consists of constructing a private recreational dock, a riprap revetment, and a private boat ramp. In detail, the applicant proposes to construct a 4’ x 80’ walkway leading to a 25’ x 18’ covered pierhead, with a 3’ x 30’ gangplank leading to a 37.5’ x 12’ floating dock and 12’ x 25’ floating jet dock on the ebb side of the pierhead. In addition, the applicant proposes to place 215.7 cubic yards of riprap revetment below the MHW line along 448 linear feet of the shoreline. The riprap revetment will impact approximately 448 square feet (0.01 acre) of tidal saltmarsh. Lastly, the applicant proposes to place 42.8 cubic yards of fill material below the MHW line in order to construct a 12’ x 150’ boat ramp. The boat ramp will impact approximately 1,462 square feet (0.03 acre) of tidal saltmarsh. The project purpose is to facilitate water access to Leadenwah Creek for recreational use while preventing continued erosion on the applicant’s property.
