Ekwok Village Council's stated purpose is to construct a pioneer access road. The road is needed to allow residents to access a subsistence resource area without trespassing through a Native Allotment on the currently used trail. The project would involve the construction of a pioneer road, beginning near the entrance to the existing landfill and continuing northeast approximately 4500 feet, terminating at Blueberry Hill. The first 500 feet would be enhancing an existing 10 foot wide trial. The remainder of the road would extend through previously undisturbed wetlands. Construction would consist of clearing, placement of geotextile, and placement of fill material. The total estimated permanent fill impacts to wetlands are 8,000 cubic yards, or 2.6 acres for the entire project. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plans (sheet 1 of 9), dated July 24, 2013; (sheets 2-9), dated August 5, 2014. Please contact Brian Remackel at (907) 753-2821, toll free from within Alaska at (800) 478-2712, by fax at (907) 753-5567, or by email at Brian.A.Remackel@usace.army.mil if further information is desired concerning this notice.
