Full Public NoticeProject PlansMitigation Plan

The applicant proposes to widen 12 miles of existing roadway from the current 20 – 22 feet wide to a width of 42 feet. The total amount of wetlands and open waters (Cayo Atascosa) located within the proposed project ROW is approximately 20.28 acres and 0.073 acre, respectively. Approximately 13,315 cubic yards of earthen material and concrete would be discharged within waters of the U.S. for this project resulting in the permanent filling of 7.678 acres of wetlands. An additional 0.26 acre of wetlands and 0.14 acre of open waters will be impacted at the mitigation site resulting in a total of 8.05 acres of permanent impacts. Approximately 8.267 acres of wetlands would be temporarily impacted by the widening project for construction access and grading for the proposed culverts. These impacts would be restored to pre-project elevations with 12 months of the project’s completion. Due to the potential presence of ocelots that could cross the roadway, culverts and fencing would be placed in eight locations to create wildlife crossings.
