PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The applicant proposes to create an artificial reef utilizing pre-fabricated reef structures, obsolete oil and gas production structures, obsolete or surplus vessels and other approved artificial reef materials in a 1,650-acre area. The average water depth is approximately 64 feet. The proposed reef is greater than 3 nautical miles from any safety fairways and 18 nautical miles from the nearest known natural hard bottom area. Placed material will have at least 30 feet of clearance below the mean lowest low water. All floatable materials will be removed prior to placement, and all tanks, compartments and enclosures will be cleaned to EPA standards prior to placement.
