PROPOSED WATER CONTROL STRUCTURE IN CALCASIEU PARISH

NAME OF APPLICANT: Cameron Parish Police Jury, Post Office Box 366, Cameron, Louisiana.

LOCATION: Located at Latitude 30.07725, Longitude -93.28666, at Louisiana Highway 384 and Black Bayou Cut located approximately 0.5 miles southerly from the intersection of Louisiana Highway 384 and the Intracoastal Waterway, Louisiana, in Calcasieu Parish. The project is located within the Lower Calcasieu Basin, Hydrologic Unit 08080206.

DESCRIPTION: Department of the Army (DA) permit, MVN-1998-3780-WDD, was issued to Cameron Parish Police Jury on May 13, 2004, to dredge and remove 3,000 cubic yards (cy) of sand & clay material, and drive foundation piles for the installation of (10) ten-foot high box culverts equipped with flap gate structures. Dredge and remove 22,000 cy of native material to form inlet and outlet channels, deposit 4,000 cy of earthen material along with 300 cubic yards of asphalt to construct 1,000 feet of temporary bypass road, install sheet pile deflection walls, deposit 950 cy of riprap at intake and discharge locations for erosion control, and place 350 cy of rock revetment to stabilize bank lines, all to restore natural drainage patterns and reduce water levels within the western edge of the Mermentau River Basin. Permitted work is approximately 90% completed. The applicant is requesting that the DA permit be reissued for the permitted activity. The Corps shall determine if any further mitigation shall be required prior to reissuance of the subject DA permit.
