City of Valdez, Ms. Diane Kinney's stated purpose is to increase the harbor depth to -15 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) to maintain and improve safe navigation within the existing Valdez Small Boat Harbor (SBH). Proposed work is to dredge within the U.S. Corps of Engineers (USACE) federal navigation channel, maneuvering channel and basin to deepen these areas to a final depth of -15 feet MLLW, re-establishing and improving safe passage for vessels entering the Valdez SBH. Sediment removal would range from 1 to 4 feet on average to meet the proposed -15 feet MLLW dredge depth. Up to 32,000 cubic yards (CY) of sediment would be dredged within the 10 acre basin. To improve access to the vessel grid on the south side of the Valdez SBH, 500 CY of clean cobble would be placed following dredging. The fill would be placed within the dredging footprint. The dredged material would be disposed of at an approved deep-water disposal area located 1.6 nautical miles south of the harbor within Port Valdez. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plan (Figures 1-5), dated March 2016. The project site is located within Sections 6 and 32, T. 8 and 9 S., R. 6 W., Copper River Meridian; USGS Quad Map Valdez A-7; Latitude 31.1241º N., Longitude 146.3346º W.; Valdez Small Boat Harbor; in Valdez, Alaska. Please contact Ms. Amanda Whittier at (907) 753-5582, toll free from within Alaska at (800) 478-2712, by fax at (907) 753-5567, or by email at Amanda.L.Whittier@usace.army.mil if further information is desired concerning this notice.
